Smoke Alarm Services is operated by SolarSolutions Pty Ltd (ABN 59 613 450 221), based in Brisbane, Queensland. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it and how we look after it.

If you have any questions, call us on (07) 3349 0636 or email sales@smokealarmservices.com.au.

What we collect

When you contact us or book a job, we may collect:

  • your name, phone number, email address and property address
  • details about your property and its smoke alarms, including photos taken during a job
  • access details, such as gate codes, key arrangements or the best time to visit
  • tenant, owner, property manager or body corporate contact details, where you give them to us so we can do the job
  • quotes, invoices and payment records
  • notes from our calls, emails and messages with you

When you use our website, we also collect:

  • what you type into our contact form (name, phone, email, address, the service you need and your message)
  • information about your visit through Google Analytics, such as the pages you view, the device and browser you use and your approximate location. This uses cookies and doesn’t tell us who you are
  • information Google reCAPTCHA needs to check that the form is being filled in by a person and not a spam robot
  • if you play the video on our Compliance page, YouTube (owned by Google) may set its own cookies

Why we collect it

We use your information to:

  • answer your enquiry and give you a quote
  • book, carry out and record smoke alarm work
  • send invoices and keep our business records
  • send service reminders by SMS or email, for example when your annual service is due
  • understand how people use our website so we can improve it

We only send marketing messages, such as offers or news, if you’ve agreed to receive them. Every marketing SMS lets you reply STOP, and every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. You can also call us to stop them at any time.

Tenants and property managers

When we work for a landlord, property manager or body corporate, we may be given tenant names, phone numbers and access details. We use that information only to arrange and carry out the job we’ve been asked to do.

Who we share it with

We only share your information when we need to, to run the job and the business:

  • the licensed electricians we engage for hardwired alarm work
  • the owner, property manager, agent or body corporate connected to the job
  • the software we use to run the business, including ServiceM8 (job management), Xero (invoicing and accounts) and Google (email, website analytics and spam protection)
  • payment providers, if you pay electronically
  • our accountant and other professional advisers
  • anyone we’re required to share it with by law

We don’t sell your personal information.

Information stored overseas

Some of the software providers we use, such as Google, Xero and ServiceM8, may store information on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. We choose established providers and only give them what they need.

How we look after it

We keep your information in password protected systems and only our team and the people listed above can see it. We keep records for as long as we need them for the job, for warranty and annual plan records, and to meet our tax and legal obligations. After that, we delete or de-identify them.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies for Google Analytics and Google reCAPTCHA, and YouTube may set cookies if you play our video. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although the contact form may ask you to confirm you’re not a robot.

Seeing or correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by calling (07) 3349 0636 or emailing sales@smokealarmservices.com.au. We’ll respond within 30 days.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we’ve handled your information, please contact us first on (07) 3349 0636 or at sales@smokealarmservices.com.au, and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
